BOOST YOUR BRAIN HEALTH 7 healthy habits can help support brain health: Engage in activities that raise your heart rate and increase blood flow to the brain and body, such as biking, exercising at Burman Gym, walking, swimming, and gardening. Challenge your mind with puzzles, games, reading, and learning new skills, such as playing a new instrument or learning a new language. Stay socially connected. Good nutrition is important for brain health—eat more fresh vegetables and fruit, along with foods that are less processed and lower in fat. Manage your blood pressure and chronic conditions, such as diabetes. Reduce your exposure to toxins—both alcohol and smoking are harmful to your brain and can damage your lungs. Finally, good-quality sleep is important for brain health! Stay off screens before bed! “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you…” — Isaiah 43:2–3 ~ Your Health Ministry Team

SHARE YOUR ANNOUNCEMENT Have something to share with our church family? We welcome announcements for our weekly bulletin, including ministry updates, community events, and special celebrations. Submit here by Wednesday at noon to be included in the upcoming Sabbath bulletin (space permitting).

Last week, Burman University held its annual service day. It is a glorious afternoon where classes are cancelled, and staff, faculty and students volunteer to serve in all kinds of ways around Lacombe, Red Deer and Maskwacis. In all, over 200 people come together to make all of this possible.
The week before everything was set to happen, I made my way to the Lacombe Ministerial meeting, certain that the pastors in Lacombe would know of needs that could be met. The time was a blessing, not just because various projects came up, but also because we were in the company of familiar faces who encouraged each other in ministry.
That day, it just so happened that Deborah from the Climate Witness Project was there sharing about their work. She was part of a group called the Green Team that was involved with the Woodland Tree Sanctuary. As it turned out, there was work they could use volunteers for. As the emails to organize things went back and forth, the need for 20 volunteers who could come was expressed, and whether it would be at all possible to have work gloves and garden trowels for each person. This was expressed almost apologetically because there would be so much extra material, and it would be totally ok if it weren’t possible.
About a month before this email exchange, I found a box on my desk with a note that read. “Maybe you could use this for service day? If not, please feel free to pass it on to someone who could use it. Adam Deibert,” A good friend and previous Burman Chaplain who was well acquainted with the demands of service day.
I opened it and found 25 pairs of gloves and 25 garden trowels. Supplied to us long before we realized we needed them.
The words in Isaiah 65:24 come to mind, “Before they call, I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”
More than once, in the planning and preparation for Service Day, God has reminded me that this is not just mine to carry. He is on the move to put the pieces together, and he will always send help. As I worry, frantically prepare, stress and fret, God is moving in invisible ways to take care of the things that matter to me. Even before I know it is. Even before I realize what I need. Even before I ask.
~ from Pastor Massiel’s heart
