NATIONAL NURSING WEEK is a time to celebrate and honor nurses working in a variety of healthcare settings—from hospitals and clinics to home care and long-term care facilities. They are the backbone of our healthcare system. At some point in our lives, most of us will likely experience being hospitalized. The nurses who care for us are not only a great comfort, but they also play a pivotal role in ensuring we receive the care we need—showing compassion, knowledge, and courage during challenging times. Their expertise, skills, and dedication make a lasting difference in the lives of patients and communities. Nurses build meaningful relationships with their patients, learning valuable details that often help guide care and support recovery. “…I was sick and you looked after me.” — Matthew 25:36. Thank you! ~ Your Health Ministry Team

One of the things I enjoyed during the winter months was waking up early on Sunday mornings to join a small group of men at 7:00 a.m. via Zoom for conversation, learning, and encouragement. One particular morning, someone shared about how crops are grown here in Alberta. Curious, I spent some time looking into it afterward and discovered a farming practice called polyculture for climate resilience.
Because the weather in Alberta can be so unpredictable — from heavy rain to dry heat, from cold snaps to unexpected flurries — farmers will sometimes place multiple seeds into one hole. Different seeds respond differently to the environment. If there is too much water, one seed may thrive. If there is drought and heat, another may grow instead. The purpose is resilience: no matter the conditions, something will still grow.
That thought stayed with me.
It reminded me of our Christian walk. Life’s conditions are constantly changing. Sometimes we experience storms, disappointment, pressure, or seasons of dryness. In those moments, our response often reveals what is growing within us. Too often, hardship can produce bitterness, complaining, or frustration.
Yet Scripture reminds us that the “fruit of the Spirit” is singular — one fruit expressed through love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). These qualities are produced by the Holy Spirit regardless of the season we are in.
Whether facing the rains of life, the floods of circumstances, the heat of trials, or the cold of uncertainty, the Bible calls us to “give thanks in all things.” In every season, God is still growing something in us.
