LISTENING TO MUSIC provides many benefits to both our mental & physical well-being. It can reduce anxiety, blood pressure & pain as well as improve sleep quality, mood, mental alertness & memory. 1. Mental Health. Studies show that music can boost your brain’s production of dopamine & serotonin, & reduce cortisol levels. 2. Workouts. Listening to energetic music while exercising, can increase your physical performance & endurance. 3. Memory. Studies show that singing lyrics can be especially helpful to people recovering from a stroke or brain injury. 4. Community Connection. Whether going to a concert or listening to a choir sing in Church, the communal act of listening to music with other people, generates social connection. Music has the ability to boost your health in a holistic manner, is an inexpensive & accessible resource to have in your “well-being tool kit”. ~ Your Health Ministry Team

SHARE YOUR ANNOUNCEMENT Have something to share with our church family? We welcome announcements for our weekly bulletin, including ministry updates, community events, and special celebrations. Submit here by Wednesday at noon to be included in the upcoming Sabbath bulletin (space permitting).

I learned a new term last week: benevolent detachment. As I reflected on it, I was reminded of the beautiful invitation in 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” It is benevolent because God invites us to do something for our good, motivated by His deep love and care for us. It is detachment because we are invited to release, to hand over our worries, burdens, and anxieties into His capable hands.
Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that God actually wants to carry what weighs us down. The past couple of weeks have felt especially heavy, and I found myself dragging my worries around like a sack of rocks. Even though I have known this promise for most of my life, I still held on instead of handing everything over to the One who cannot be confined by the limits of the natural world; the One who hung the stars in place, engineered photosynthesis, designed the human eye, parted the sea, and provided manna morning after morning.
Am I the only one who sometimes carries stress as though holding onto it will somehow solve the problem? On Monday, the gloomy weather seemed to mirror my draining day. Then, around 10 p.m., I looked out the window and saw the most glorious sky. It felt like a gentle reminder that God can take our darkest days and transform them into a breathtaking display of His grace and love.
Whatever your week has been like, whatever grey cloud may be hanging over your head, whatever impossible situation seems to grow more overwhelming with each passing day, may you remember the invitation of benevolent detachment. It is God’s gracious call to place everything in His hands, not because the burden is small, but because His care for you is immeasurably great.
~ from Pastor Liz’s heart
