WITH INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY this past week, I was reminded of the examples of women in the Bible. The Bible gives us specific guidelines for living. We have access to principles that will bring clarity to any matter, including relationships, finances, parenting, and good health. From Genesis to Revelation, the Holy Spirit gives us detailed narratives of the lives of many people. For women, there is a wealth of insight available to us through the examples of biblical women and how they pertain to our health and wellness. One example is Naomi in the Book of Ruth and how she dealt with depression, acknowledging her mental and emotional health without shame. From Naomi, we learn how important it is to maintain social connections with people—not just electronics—for optimal health. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” ~ Your Health Ministry Team

SHARE YOUR ANNOUNCEMENT Have something to share with our church family? We welcome announcements for our weekly bulletin, including ministry updates, community events, and special celebrations. Submit here by Wednesday at noon to be included in the upcoming Sabbath bulletin (space permitting).

Inhale: Prince of Peace
Exhale: Calm my anxieties

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of speaking for a church retreat under the theme “Breathe”. Truthfully, I was trying to find someone else to do it or find a way to cancel because ya girl has been going THROUGH IT. But God.

God knew that the messages I was sharing for others were needed for me as well. As we sat in the beauty of the Holy Spirit’s presence, we marveled at the reality that Jesus breathed His Spirit – His breath, His ruach – into us. What a wonder. That we should have access to the Spirit of God. In us. Through us. Around us.

Inhale: Holy Spirit, fill me
Exhale: I receive Your peace

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”. 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. ~ John 20:19-20 ~

In John 20, we are invited into a pretty interesting scene of the disciples after Jesus has been crucified. They are still confused about what has happened and afraid that they will be the next to die. So they do what anyone would logically do in that situation. They get together, hide together, and ensure to lock the doors because they are afraid. And rightfully so. They just saw their Saviour, their leader, their friend … crucified for the way that He lived. They loved him. They followed Him. They practiced the Way.

Logically, their fears made sense.
Logically, my own fears make sense.
Logically, my grief makes sense.
Logically, my doubts make sense.

But look at the text again. It says “… Jesus came in and stood among them”. It doesn’t say that he knocked, it doesn’t say that he waits to be let in. He just walks into their fears and anxieties. Truly, friends, that can feel scary. But the Spirit of God does not wait for a convenient time or for our courage to appear. He steps into our fears and meets us there. The only response to fear, stress, and confusion is the overwhelming and all comforting Spirit of God who speaks peace into our lives when fear and anxiety feel safer.

Inhale: Please enter my fears
Exhale: Remind me that I am yours

~ from Pastor Dennalia’s heart
