BEFORE IT IS TIME to head back to school, develop a healthy sleep routine for your children. Help your child adjust to earlier bedtimes a week or two before the new school year begins. Set a consistent bedtime for your children and stick with it every night! Getting enough sleep is critical for children, teenagers, and adults to stay healthy and be successful at school and work. Not getting enough sleep is linked to lower academic achievement and increased tardiness. Turn off electronic devices and create a bedtime routine to help your children settle down and fall asleep, such as a calming bath, reading with them, tucking them in, singing lullabies, having bedtime prayers, and saying goodnight. “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” Proverbs 3:24. ~ Your Health Ministry Team

SHARE YOUR ANNOUNCEMENT Have something to share with our church family? We welcome announcements for our weekly bulletin, including ministry updates, community events, and special celebrations. Submit here by Wednesday at noon to be included in the upcoming Sabbath bulletin (space permitting).

This summer, I had the chance to tackle a job I’d been dreaming of getting my hands on for months: organizing and purging the garage. Our garage had accumulated a lot of clutter after Campmeeting. There was our stuff, the young adult division materials and various messes from months of neglect that had just sat there. My husband went in and did the initial organizing and sweep. We dropped things off in their appropriate storage, and we even washed the floor. There were parts of our garage that had never looked so good.

But that was only phase one. One day off during the week, I went in with laser focus and took my time. There was something that I noticed right away that I could no longer ignore. We had so much stuff that just sat there unused. We had more than we needed. We had three bicycles – there are only two of us in our household! I bought a microwave on a whim because a student was selling it at an unbeatable price. There were dishes, shoes, blankets, and broken camping chairs. Nothing was spared. Each item was evaluated and sorted. Stuff was taken to the free table on campus at Burman; more stuff was taken to the Lacombe Community Food Bank Thrift Store; friends got gifted things, and the unrepairable made its last journey to the dump. What was interesting was that as I noticed how much extra we had, the needs that people around us started to pop up. My nephew had outgrown his bike and needed one; my sister-in-law also needed a bike… and a microwave! Not only did we make room and clear some clutter, but we were also able to share with others around us. Needs were met from our extras. Needs were met from our extras!

Sometimes the thing we have might be the blessing that someone needs. It might be a garage full of stuff; it might be a couple extra hours in your month; it might be a ride you’re willing to give. So many of us have blessings to give; may your eyes and heart be open today to how you can be a blessing to others.

~ from Pastor Massiel’s heart
