DO YOU HAVE A PASSION FOR COOKING? A heart for health? Or God’s nudge to be part of a vital ministry? Consider joining a ministry that brings all three together! Our Health Ministry team is actively working to relaunch the cooking class at the Burman Gym and is looking for people who might lead, lend a hand, or simply join in the fun. Could that be you? Prayerfully consider this opportunity to be part of a gospel outreach that nourishes both body and spirit. For more information, please contact Irma at [email protected].
TOMORROW The Men’s Ministries team will be hosting a ‘Guys-Only’ Superbowl Watch Party on Sunday, February 8th, at the PAA common area. Doors open at 4pm. Bring snacks to share and come enjoy the game in a wholesome atmosphere with good company – complete with a unique half-time experience.
HELP SUPPORT CHCS ATHLETICS! The CHCS athletes are collecting bottles and other recyclables that can be returned for deposit. Raised funds will help cover the costs of attending Adventist Fellowship Tournaments and Youth Rally events, where our students have the opportunity to compete, worship, and fellowship alongside other Christian athletes from Adventist schools. These youth rally and tournament experiences are often life-changing opportunities for our students. We will be collecting bottles on Monday, February 9, from 4:00–9:00 PM. If you’d like to donate but aren’t available during that time, you’re welcome to leave items at your front door or bring them directly to CHCS. Thank you for supporting our students—both in athletics and in faith!
THE PARKLAND ADVENTURER CLUB will meet today, Saturday, February 7, from 3:30pm – 5:00pm. Please contact us at [email protected] or Buhle at (780) 327-4396 if you have any questions or would like to know more.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Today we give thanks for Benjamin Otieno and Michael Willing as they mark another year—may your day be filled with joy and God’s steady guidance. In the coming week, we look forward to celebrating Charlie Whitworth, Joanne Harrington, Anya Delafield, Desmond Grabo, Ashley Shipowick, and Danae Brousson. May each new year bring renewed hope, happy moments, and many reasons to praise God for His goodness!
If you or someone in your family has an upcoming birthday, please let the church office know—we don’t want to miss celebrating anyone who is so precious to our church family.
WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF LOVING EACH OTHER? February may focus on love, but the health benefits of love last all year. Staying connected with family and friends throughout the year helps keep you healthy. Calling friends, having family dinners, going on date nights, or volunteering all help you feel connected. Acts of kindness and expressing gratitude for their presence in your life can deepen your connections—whether through church, shared activities, meaningful conversations, or being there for each other during challenging times. These bonds create a foundation of support that impacts your overall health and wellness. 1 Corinthians 13:13 says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Have you ever heard someone say, “That’s the hard truth”? It usually points to a reality that’s uncomfortable, inconvenient, or just plain difficult to face. Lately, I’ve been bumping into a few of those myself: the rising cost of groceries, how hard it is to get up after sitting on the floor, the hard truth that my son takes ages to text back, living with the uncertainty of my dad’s health and knowing our time together is short. And perhaps the hardest truth of all, obedience to God’s plan does not always mean an easy path. Hard truths.
Genesis 22 tells the story of God asking Abraham to take his only son, Isaac, the promised son to Mount Moriah and offer him as a burnt offering. I can’t begin to imagine the inner turmoil Abraham must have carried as he prepared for the journey, climbed the mountain, arranged the wood, and then placed his son on the altar. Verse 9 says, “When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood” (NLT).
The Bible doesn’t give us details about Abraham’s emotions in that moment, but the silence itself feels heavy. Was his heart breaking with every movement? Was Isaac confused, fearful, trying to push his Dad away from him? What we do know is this: Abraham obeyed, even when obedience demanded everything he loved most. The hard truth for Abraham was surrender, placing what mattered most into God’s hands. And then, at the height of this faith-filled moment, God intervenes. “Don’t lay a hand on the boy,” the angel of the Lord says. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son” (Genesis 22:12). That word ‘withheld’ hits different for me.
Are there things we are holding onto so tightly that God needs to test our faith to reveal where our trust truly lies? That’s a hard truth you and I may need to explore. Ask God to search your heart. Is there anything or anyone you’re withholding from His care and leadership? Obedient surrender can feel so scary, trembling-with-sweat scary. But verse 14 invites us to breathe again: “Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means ‘The LORD will provide’). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: ‘On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.’”
God does not waste our hard truths. When we trust Him fully, He transforms them into something beautiful. On the mountain of surrender, the Lord still provides.
