ROAD TRIP SAFETY IN THE WINTER Winter conditions can be challenging and dangerous. Dress appropriately for the weather. Wear sturdy, non-slip boots. Carry a first aid kit and emergency contact information. If you are planning a winter road trip, there are special precautions to take. Know your route and have a physical map with you in case your GPS isn’t working. Inform someone about your plans and your expected return time. Have a “winter survival kit” with you in case you are stranded, which includes non-perishable food, water, blankets, a flashlight, batteries, candles, and matches. Refuel often so your gas tank is never less than half full. By following these winter travel tips, you can ensure a cozy, safe, and enjoyable trip. Create memories that will warm your heart long after the snow has melted! Book of Proverbs 17:22 says, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” ~ Your Health Ministry Team
A HUGE THANK YOU!!! to all the volunteers for the Winter Initiative. We had about 50 wonderful people turn up to help, from the very young to the very old. Everyone worked together to create 100 meal packages and 72 personal hygiene packages (plus 6 others that were donated). Half the meals were delivered to those at Safe Harbor and the other half went to the Mustard Seed along with the hygiene packs. Your willingness to use your time and energy to help others is very much appreciated, as is your joyfulness in helping others. Thank you. Bless you.
ANNUAL HEALTH SABBATH What does “Obtaining Total Health” mean to you? Most of us are very familiar with the NEWSTART acronym but are you aware that a spiritual aspect is attributed to each one? We invite you to join us as Darlene Blaney, AB Conference Health Ministry Leader and the Canadian Union Health Director, will be focusing on this correlation at our Annual Health Sabbath Feb 28 for both worship services. Join us and be blessed!
DO YOU HAVE A PASSION FOR COOKING? A heart for health? Or God’s nudge to be part of a vital ministry? Consider joining a ministry that brings all three together! Our Health Ministry team is actively working to relaunch the cooking class at the Burman Gym and is looking for people who might lead, lend a hand, or simply join in the fun. Could that be you? Prayerfully consider this opportunity to be part of a gospel outreach that nourishes both body and spirit. For more information, please contact Irma at [email protected].
KINDERGARTEN SABBATH SCHOOL LEADER NEEDED We are prayerfully seeking an additional volunteer to help lead our Kindergarten Sabbath School. We are grateful for our two faithful leaders but we REALLY NEED one more person to join this ministry. If you feel called to serve in this role, please contact Judy Gorbenko at 403-550-7748.
LACOMBE FOOD BANK & THRIFT STORE looking for someone to assist the director in a paid part time position. Lifting is required! This position will assist the director in all duties of the Food Bank & Thrift Store. If you feel this could be the place for you, please call Brenda @ 403-782-6777.
SHARE YOUR ANNOUNCEMENT Have something to share with our church family? We welcome announcements for our weekly bulletin, including ministry updates, community events, and special celebrations. Submit here by Wednesday at noon to be included in the upcoming Sabbath bulletin (space permitting).

Some friends of mine used to host a podcast called Joy in the Weeds. They invited guests to share stories about holding both joy and pain at the same time, celebrating goodness while walking through the yuck of life. I’ve known that tension in my heart before. This week, I knew it in my body. Wednesday’s sunshine was stunning. The sun made the fresh snow glisten and highlighted the beauty of the trees. But the moment I stepped outside, the beauty met biting reality. Within seconds, the -32° air cut through every layer. That’s winter in Alberta, brilliant sunshine alongside the sting of Arctic wind. Splendor and suffering, side by side.
The book of Lamentations carries that same tension, life’s ache intertwined with the steady presence of God. In Lamentations 3:19–23, everything shifts on one small word: “yet.” “The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words… Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” (NLT) That word yet does not erase the pain. It doesn’t pretend the cold isn’t real. It simply refuses to let hardship have the final word.
I believe the invitation for us is not to ignore the weeds, but to recognize God within them. He is our joy among tangled roots. The warmth of sunlight even when frost bites. The Comforter in grief. The healing balm when life tastes bitter beyond words. Our circumstances may not shift overnight. We don’t need to manufacture cheerfulness. But we can return, again and again, to what is true: His love is steady. His mercy is renewed each morning. His faithfulness has not run out.
Take a breath. Be still and notice, what is going on in your heart. Has the ache of life grown louder than the hope God offers each morning? Friends, the cold may still bite, and the weeds may still surround us. But the sun has not stopped shining. You don’t have to rush past the sorrow. You don’t have to tidy it up. Bring it honestly before Jesus. And when you are ready, whisper your own quiet yet. Yet I will remember. Yet I will hope. Yet I will trust that His mercies are new, even here.
~ from Pastor Liz’s heart
