Don’t neglect the value of rest! 4. Dress warmly! Wear headwear that fully covers your ears, choose mittens rather than gloves, and wear well-insulated socks. Dress in layers of loose, warm clothing to protect yourself from wind, snow, and rain, and limit your time in the cold. 5. Always carry an emergency supply kit and warm clothing when travelling. 6. Continue to exercise daily, choosing an indoor gym if the temperature is below zero or if the windchill is extreme. Regular activity keeps you healthy both mentally and physically! “You set the boundaries of the earth, and you made both summer and winter.” — Psalm 74:17

SHARE YOUR ANNOUNCEMENT Have something to share with our church family? We welcome announcements for our weekly bulletin, including ministry updates, community events, and special celebrations. Submit here by Wednesday at noon to be included in the upcoming Sabbath bulletin (space permitting).

I had the beautiful opportunity to attend a three-day pastors’ retreat this past October in Chicago, with Pr Massiel. Traveling by plane is not exactly my favourite activity. The stress of delayed or missed connecting flights (things we can’t control) usually pushes me to arrive at the airport much earlier than most people would. So having Pr Massiel as my travel buddy brought a deep sense of comfort. If anything went sideways, I’d have a friend with me. When we arrived at the hotel, we immediately slipped into the rare joy of rest in the middle of a demanding ministry season. New friendships formed, old classmates reconnected, and we wandered through downtown Chicago—taking chilly train rides, sharing vulnerable moments, shedding tender tears, and laughing more than we expected.

During one of the workshops, the presenter challenged us with something simple but unsettling: to surrender control. He said that only when we release our grip on our own plans can we truly live with fullness and allow God to lead us. And friends, I’ll be honest, I love control. I love knowing what’s coming next, the timing, the structure, the expected outcomes. Predictability makes my brain feel safe; it helps my heart prepare. The idea of letting go feels risky, unsteady…volatile.

Then the presenter turned on some music and began dancing, fully, freely, unapologetically. Instantly, I thought, “oh my goodness, he’s going to make us dance.” Sure enough, after talking more about stepping outside our comfort zones and letting God guide our steps, he turned the music back on and invited all of us to stand up and join him. Our small cohort, sheepishly got up in the middle of the boardroom and danced to the music, doing the very thing that required us to loosen our grip and trust the moment. It was a blend of joy and awkwardness—full of laughter, a touch of embarrassment, and just enough challenge to stretch us beyond our comfort zones.

As strange as it felt, that moment became a living illustration of something God has been whispering to my heart: sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is stop gripping so tightly and simply be still. And that is exactly what God invites us into in Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” We have options friends: be still and know God is in control, or just dance and allow God to lead.

~ from Pastor Liz’s heart
