SINGING TOGETHER can be therapeutic and has mental health benefits. Christmas, a season of joy, warmth, and togetherness, is a time that can lift our spirits and positively impact our mental health. The festive atmosphere—the twinkling lights, symbolic decorations, and delicious foods—all contribute to a sense of happiness and well-being. Christmas carolling is a big part of Christmas celebrations as we celebrate the birth of baby Jesus in song: “O Holy Night,” “Away in a Manger,” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” Isaiah 9:6 reminds us, “For to us a child is born…” ~ Your Health Ministry Team

I enjoy going to the gym. Some days it’s hard to get there, but once I start lifting weights, walking around As we gather for the final worship service of 2025 and turn our hearts toward a new year, I’d like to leave you with a simple but powerful image: bamboo.
I’ve been in many homes and places where bamboo is used in everyday life- flooring, paneling, furniture, fencing, even chopsticks and fabrics. It’s valued for its strength, flexibility, and usefulness. But beyond all its practical uses, bamboo has something important to teach us by the way it grows.
Chinese bamboo offers us a profound spiritual lesson. For nearly five years, there is little to no visible growth above the ground. It can appear as though nothing is happening at all. Yet beneath the surface, something essential is taking place. A deep, wide, and resilient root system is forming. Then, in a remarkably short period—about 58 days—the bamboo can grow as much as 90 feet tall. What looks sudden is actually the result of years of hidden preparation.
In God’s economy, we grow down before we grow up. People don’t see your devotional time, reflective moments, and overcoming challenging circumstances. Yet, through these moments, Jesus forms our character, deepens our faith, and shapes our trust in Him long before the fruit becomes visible to others.
Jesus speaks to this in John 15:5–8: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Jesus is also clear that this connection is a choice. The word “if” matters. If you remain in me. If my words remain in you. In our homes, our church, and our schools, we gently and consistently invite one another to choose Jesus—not just once, but day by day.
As we step into a new year, may we choose to remain connected—to Christ and to one another—so that together we may grow into maturity as a faithful, flourishing community.
~ from Pastor Orlando’s heart
