THE HOLIDAY SEASON is full of joy, family, friends, and celebration, but it can also bring stress, overindulgence, and disrupt routines. To help keep your health on track while enjoying the festivities, here are six practical ways to stay merry and healthy this Christmas:

  • Prioritize sleep: Sleep is essential for your immune system, mood, and overall well-being.
  • Stay hydrated: Drinking enough water helps prevent dehydration and fatigue.
  • Step outside: Spend time in nature. Fresh air and movement can reduce stress and boost your energy.
  • Protect your routines: Eat real meals, get enough sleep, and move your body. Your health depends more on consistency than perfection. Holiday health isn’t about avoiding treats—it’s about avoiding extremes!
  • Embrace balance: Being healthy is about maintaining good habits over time, which means you don’t have to be perfect all the time. Focus on a balanced diet, regular exercise, and enjoying a few treats along the way.
  • Watch your drinks: Avoid sugary sodas, juices, and creamers. Instead, choose fresh fruit with fiber to nourish your body.

As 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us: “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” – Your Health Ministry Team

SHARE YOUR ANNOUNCEMENT Have something to share with our church family? We welcome announcements for our weekly bulletin, including ministry updates, community events, and special celebrations. Submit here by Wednesday at noon to be included in the upcoming Sabbath bulletin (space permitting).

I enjoy going to the gym. Some days it’s hard to get there, but once I start lifting weights, walking around the track, or playing basketball, I’m always glad I showed up. My body feels good, sore (in a good way), and my mind is clear for the tasks ahead. But anyone who trains knows this truth: what you do outside the gym matters just as much as what you do inside it. Building muscle is only half the story. What you do during your recovery time—rest, hydration, nutrition, stress management, and attitude—is equally essential.

The same is true for our spiritual lives.

Many of us rely on one “workout” a week—community worship on Sabbath. And yes, worship matters deeply. But just as muscles don’t grow from a single weekly gym session, our spiritual muscles can’t thrive on once-a-week engagement. What you do outside of church and how you treat people shape the strength, resilience, and depth of your walk with God.

One preacher adds, “You are only as strong as your daily disciplines.”

So, what do your daily disciplines look like? Here are a few:

  • Rest: Sabbath day is a gift, but rest is also a lifestyle. It’s easy to stop working for a day and still carry stress, negativity, and trauma in our minds and hearts. Cultivate rhythms that bring rest to your whole life.
  • Destress: Take small prayer breaks throughout your day. Lay the situations before God instead of carrying them alone.
  • Eat right: Feed on Scripture daily. Getting our daily sustenance from social media (or other sources) will leave us malnourished. Christ, the Bread of Life, is spiritual food that truly sustains.
  • Stay hydrated: It is said we need 6–8 glasses of water a day. In the same way, 6–8 measures of Jesus are still not enough. Stay close to the source and drink from the water of life.
  • Positive attitude: A daily dose of God’s promises reframes negativity and stops us from projecting it onto others. It pulls us back toward the hope dealer and life giver, Jesus.

Paul reminds us, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:8).

So, keep showing up—in the gym, yes—but even more, in the daily practices that strengthen our connection with God.

~ from Pastor Orlando’s heart
