THE POWER OF REST Did you know that getting enough sleep is essential? A lack of sleep can have a serious impact on our mental health. It impairs our ability to handle daily stress, think clearly, and make good decisions. A sleepy brain can make many mistakes! Would you benefit from a nap? A good nap can pull you out of an afternoon slump, recharge your energy, and leave you more alert and in a better mood. Some of the benefits of napping include:
- Increased alertness
- Improved attitude
- Better memory — when your computer “crashes,” you lose data, but when you “crash” on the couch for a while, it can actually help your memory!
- A more creative mindset for learning new skills
As Matthew 11:28 reminds us: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” ~ Your Health Ministry Team

IN LOVING MEMORY OF MABEL MCKAY It is with deep sorrow, and with gratitude for a long and meaningful life, that we announce the passing of Mabel McKay (also known as Mabel Fischer, née Janzen), who died peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the age of 90. Mabel will be lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and acquaintances. A service to celebrate her life will be held in the spring, with a formal announcement to be shared once the details are finalized.
SHARE YOUR ANNOUNCEMENT Have something to share with our church family? We welcome announcements for our weekly bulletin, including ministry updates, community events, and special celebrations. Submit here by Wednesday at noon to be included in the upcoming Sabbath bulletin (space permitting).

One of the things I’ve noticed about life in Alberta, especially around Lacombe and Blackfalds, is just how dark the roads can be. Even major highways like 2 and 2A are often unlit. In the winter, when darkness settles in by 5 p.m., it weighs on me. On Tuesday nights, after Celebrate Recovery, the 15-minute drive home through the darkness can feel long and heavy. Add snow or rain to the mix, and I notice my hands gripping the steering wheel just a little tighter. It’s in those moments that I’m reminded how much we long for light—not just on the road, but in life. Darkness makes us cautious, anxious, and unsure of what lies ahead. And yet, God never promises us a fully lit path. Instead, He promises His presence and enough light for the next step. Faith often looks like continuing forward even when we can’t see very far, trusting that God is guiding us safely home.
The Bible says in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” This week, notice where you may be gripping the steering wheel of life too tightly. In moments of uncertainty or fear, pause and invite God to be your light for the next step—not the whole journey, just the next one. Practice trusting Him in the dark, one faithful step at a time.
Read these verses out loud today and intentionally claim God’s presence and power in your life. Let His Word remind you that you are never walking alone, especially in the dark:
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” — Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” — Psalm 23:4 (NIV)
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” — Psalm 27:1 (NIV)
